Terms of Service
Trader Tools is a personal financial dashboard that I built and operate. These terms govern your use of it. By signing in and using the application, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the application.
1. What the service is
The application aggregates financial information you enter or connect โ accounts, balances, debts, income, bills, budgets, spending, tax documents, and investment holdings โ and presents summaries, projections, and analysis of it. It includes tools for budgeting, cash-flow projection, tax estimation, portfolio tracking, simulated (paper) trading, and AI-generated commentary.
It is a personal project, not a licensed financial institution, broker-dealer, investment adviser, or tax preparation service. It does not hold your money, execute trades, move funds, or file anything on your behalf.
2. Not financial, tax, or legal advice
Everything the application shows is informational. Analysis, rankings, prioritizations, projections, and written commentary are outputs of software operating on the data available to it โ not recommendations, and not a professional opinion.
This applies specifically to the features most likely to look like advice:
- The AI financial advisor and analysis features. These generate written guidance, including debt-payoff prioritization and financing suggestions. They are software output, not advice from a qualified adviser.
- Income-tax estimates. These are approximations built from the income and withholding you have recorded, using simplified assumptions. They are not a tax return, not a tax opinion, and will differ from your actual liability. Use a qualified preparer to file.
- Trading SOP and compliance features. Codifying your own trading rules and auditing holdings against them is a bookkeeping aid. Compliance with your own policy is not a prediction of outcome and does not make a trade sound.
- Paper trading. Simulated results do not reflect real execution, slippage, fees, liquidity, or the psychology of trading real money. Simulated performance is not indicative of real performance.
- Copy trading and following other users. Any decision to mirror another person's positions is entirely your own risk. No user is vetted, licensed, or endorsed, and past results predict nothing.
3. AI-generated content
Several features send your data to third-party AI providers and display what comes back. This output can be wrong. Language models can produce confident, fluent, plausible statements that are factually incorrect, miscalculate, or misread an uploaded document.
Never act on AI-generated output without verifying it against the underlying numbers. In particular, figures extracted automatically from an uploaded tax document should be checked against the document itself before you rely on them. The application provides manual entry for exactly this reason.
4. Market and financial data
Prices, fundamentals, news, and related market data come from third-party sources and are provided as-is. They may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable. Do not treat any figure shown here as a real-time or authoritative quote, and do not rely on it for time-sensitive decisions. Your broker and your financial institution are the authoritative record of your accounts, not this application.
5. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old. Sign-in is through Google; you are responsible for the security of the Google account you use, and you should have two-factor authentication enabled on it. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Do not share access with anyone else.
Access to certain features is granted by permission. Registering an account does not entitle you to any particular feature.
6. Connected financial accounts
If you connect a bank or brokerage account, you do so through Plaid, and you authorize the application to retrieve the account information described in the Privacy Policy. Your banking credentials are entered directly into Plaid and are never transmitted to or stored by this application.
You may disconnect an institution at any time, which stops further retrieval. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to connect any account you link.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to access another user's data, account, or session.
- Probe, scan, or test the security of the application or its infrastructure, or circumvent any authentication, permission, or rate limit.
- Automate access in a way that places unreasonable load on the service, or use it to resell, redistribute, or scrape data obtained through it.
- Upload malware, or content you do not have the right to upload.
- Use the application for anything unlawful, or to facilitate market manipulation, insider trading, or any other prohibited trading activity.
8. Your data
You retain ownership of the information you enter and the documents you upload. You grant permission to store and process that information solely to operate the features you are using, as described in the Privacy Policy. How long data is kept and how it is disposed of is governed by the published data retention policy.
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter. Output is only as good as its input.
9. Availability and changes
This is a personal project operated on a best-effort basis. There is no uptime commitment, no support commitment, and no guarantee of continued availability. Features may change or be removed, and the service may be suspended or permanently discontinued at any time, with or without notice.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Export features are provided for this purpose.
10. Termination
You may stop using the application and delete your account at any time from within it. Access may be suspended or terminated at any time, particularly for a violation of Section 7. On termination, data is handled according to the retention policy.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The application is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. No warranty is made that the application will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, or that any calculation, projection, or analysis it produces will be accurate or complete.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, trading losses, investment losses, tax penalties, lost data, or lost opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of the application โ whether or not the possibility of such damages was foreseeable.
This includes, without limitation, losses resulting from reliance on any analysis, projection, estimate, AI-generated statement, or market data displayed by the application.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. The revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Continuing to use the application after a change means you accept the revised terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the application shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Michigan, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
